Catherine Long

Lives and works in London, UK

Catherine Long has received an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art, a BA and MA in Dance from De Montfort University and a PhD in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts. She has undertaken residencies at Chisenhale Studios, Siobhan Davies Studios and Pada Studios and is currently an artist in residence at Porthmeor Studios. As an abstract painter, Long’s work is driven by this deep engagement with the physicality of paint and the expressive potential of colour. Drawing from a background in contemporary dance, her paintings are immersive and dynamic, exploring the visceral impact of gesture, rhythm and haptic sensation. By foregrounding the embodied experience of perception, her work seeks to create a sensorial engagement that draws the viewer into a richly layered world of history, patina and resonance. Long’s work is held in private collections in the UK, Portugal, Singapore, China, Belgium and UAE.
