Kan Hung-Ju

Born 1993, Taiwan

Lives and works in New York, USA

Kan Hung-Ju was born in Taiwan in 1993 and is currently based in New York. He received his BFA  from the National Taiwan University of Arts (2015) and his MFA from the Massachusetts College of Art  and Design (2020). His works have been exhibited in numerous significant venues, including the Smith Center at Harvard University (2019), ART TAIPEI (2022), a solo exhibition in Boston (2021), New York  (2024), and Art Central Hong Kong (2025). Throughout a long-term experience of spanning disparate geographies and cultures, Kan Hung-Ju’s painting has  evolved into an act of “visual way-finding” that drifts between memory and emotion. Eschewing concrete  narratives, he utilises abstract, layered, and dissolving brushstrokes to construct private psychological spaces  on canvas. The emotions within his work remain latent within the breath of colour blocks and gestures,  appearing as fragments from the depths of memory that emerge, blurred yet profound, within the present moment.
