Kristy Chang
Born 1997 in Hong Kong
Lives and works in London, UK
Kristy M Chan holds a BFA from the Slade School of Fine Art, London (2019), and an MA in Contemporary Art from the Sotheby’s Institute of Art (2020). Her expansive, gestural canvases are richly layered meditations on the human experience. Through thick, vigorous brushstrokes and intersecting curves, her use of light and shadow maps her exploration of the complexities of "homeland" while navigating diverse cultural landscapes. Her lively use of oil paint – intuitively manipulated, layered, and rearticulated over months – recalls the spirit of Abstract Expressionism and the global diaspora experience. In 2023, she was selected for Forbes 30 Under 30 China. Chan’s work can also be found in the Danjuma Collection, London, UK; the Zabludowicz Collection, London, UK; the X Museum, Beijing, China; Forbes China, Shanghai, China; and the Femmes Artistes du Musée de Mougins, Mougins, France.
