Lives and works in New York, US
Lizbeth Mitty completed her undergraduate and graduate studies in painting and printmaking at the University of Wisconsin after initially studying painting with Malcolm Morley. Based in New York for over five decades, Mitty’s work amplifies the intrinsic abstract beauty of deteriorating architecture and interiors. She explores urban devastation as a site of organised chaos - formally beautiful yet apocalyptic and terrifying, her practice driven by the cyclical mutability of our world in times of excess.
Mitty has presented nearly 30 solo exhibitions throughout her career and received an Adolf and Esther Gottlieb Foundation Grant in 1995. Her work is held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Mint Museum, Newark Museum of Art, Orlando Museum of Art, Zimmerli Art Museum, and the New York State Museum, as well as corporate collections including Prudential, Equitable, JP Morgan, and US Trust.
Mitty is represented by Harper’s Gallery (NY, LA, South Hampton) and Marcia Wood Gallery (Atlanta).
